"The One That Got Away" is a song by American recording artist Katy Perry. The song was written by Perry, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin, and was produced by the same for Perry's third studio album, Teenage Dream (2010). The song is a mid-tempo pop ballad about a lost love.

"The One That Got Away " was written by Perry, Lukasz Gottwald and Max Martin and produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin. It is a midtempo dance-pop song positioned on the piece of E major and has a rhythm of 138 beats per minute. Joanna Holcombe from Yahoo! Music noted that the song is about first loves. Leah Greenblatt from Entertainment Weekly, said that the song is "a midtempo ode to a summer-after-high-school love with whom she recalls sharing Mustang makeout sessions to Radiohead'", Rob Sheffield from Rolling Stone stated that in the song she and the guy get matching tattoos on her 18th birthday.. Michael Wood from 'Spin Magazine' said that the song is one of the album's quieter cuts and that it recall(s) Perry's singer-songwriter days at L.A.'s Hotel Café".. Amy Sciarretto of PopCrush said the most poignant lyrical declaration is when Perry sings: “Talk about the future / Like we had a clue", adding that the song most certainly pays homage to the feeling of being young and in love, with nothing ahead of you but possibility!", she concluded by saying that "there’s a wave of sadness' when Perry sings: “The oooooone / That got away”.. The song follows the chord progression of E–G#m–C#m–A and Perry's vocal range and spans two octaves from B3 to E5. The song was built on a relentless drum beat and a music box melody which highlights Perry’s breathy voice. Kitty Empire noticed that Perry's vocal is wistful throughout the song and that the references to June and Johnny Cash was unexpected.. Rob Sheffield from Rolling Stone magazine stated that when Perry sings, 'I was June, and you were Johnny Cash,' it's understood that she's thinking of the scrubbed-up Hollywood version of June and Johnny, from Walk the Line".

Kerri Mason from Billboard described the song as "delectable", noting that it has more texture than anything on Perry's previous album, One of the Boys. Mikael Wood from Spin Magazine said that although "Perry delivers the gurl-gone-wild stuff with requisite sass", she actually "sounds more engaged on 'Not Like the Movies,' and 'The One That Got Away'.. Similarly, Kitty Empire from The Guardian praised the collaboration, stating that Perry and Luke are at their most appealing in the song.. In a similar note, Rob Sheffield from Rolling Stone, stated that Perry is more at home with the mall romance of "The One That Got Away"..The same opinion was echoed by Greg Kot from Chicago Tribune who felt that Perry sounds more invested in the more "serious" songs on the album, such as The One That Got Away. However, he added that it's as if Perry is "determined to balance the summer frothiness with a few shots of 'adult' earnestness". Amy Sciarretto of PopCrush gave the song three-and-a-half stars out of five, explaining that "it was wise of Perry’s label to release this particular song during the back-to-school period, since this tune will certainly appeal to high schoolers and college freshman who are experiencing the very things Perry is singing about", adding that the song plays to Perry’s strengths.. On the other hand, Ben Norman from About.com criticized the song's tedious production and forgettable lyrics. He also added that the song is "a more boring version of "Teenage Dream"". Leah Greenblatt from Entertainment Weekly was not satisfied with the selection of the song as the sixth single, noting that there are better songs on the album that could have been chosen instead.

"We Found Love" is a song by Barbadian recording artist Rihanna, from her sixth studio album Talk That Talk (2011). The song features Scottish singer-songwriter Calvin Harris. "We Found Love" was released as the lead single from the album and premiered on September 22, 2011, in the United Kingdom on the Capital FM radio station and was made available to download on the same day. The song has met with mixed reviews from music critics, who praised the song's composition and Rihanna's vocal performance, however, some critics felt that the lyrical content was sparse and came second to Harris' production.

"We Found Love" debuted at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and reached number one in its sixth week on the chart, giving Rihanna the record for a solo artist to have amassed twenty top-ten singles in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 in the shortest amount of time. With the song becoming the singer's eleventh number one single, Rihanna has become only the seventh artist in the 53 year history of the chart to amass at least eleven number one singles, as well as tying her with Whitney Houston in third place for females with the most number one singles, behind only Madonna (12) and Mariah Carey (18). The song has also peaked at 5 and 15 on the US Hot Dance Club Songs and Pop Songs charts, respectively. Elsewhere, "We Found Love" peaked at number one in New Zealand, Denmark, France, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and has attained top-five positions in Australia, Canada, Italy, Belgium and South Korea.

The song's accompanying music video was directed by Melina Matsoukas and presents Rihanna's relationship with her boyfriend as being like a drug and how their addiction to each other results in the singer leaving her boyfriend because of his possessive nature. The video received a mixed response from critics, with some praising its cinematic feel, whilst others criticized some of the explicit material, such as sexual bedroom antics and implied use of drug taking and overdoses. Although critics were divided in their response, the majority concurred that the content of the video strongly alludes to ex-boyfriend Chris Brown's assault on Rihanna, with the male love interest in the video also looking very similar in regards to his physical appearance.

Mylo Xyloto is the fifth studio album by British alternative rock band Coldplay. The album was released worldwide on 24 October 2011 by EMI. It was preceded by the lead single, "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall", on 3 June 2011. "Paradise" was released as the second single three months later in September. The album became their fifth #1 debut on the U.K. Album charts selling 208,000 units in the first week. In addition, their four previous albums re-emerged on the charts. The album became the group's third to debut at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling 447,000 units in the first week.

Mylo Xyloto is a concept album. According to Chris Martin, the album is "based on a love story with a happy ending", in which two protagonists: Mylo and Xyloto, who are living in an oppressive, dystopian urban environment, meet one another through a gang called "The Lost Boys", and fall in love. Lyrically, the album is inspired by "old school American graffiti" and "the White Rose Movement." Martin also said that the album was influenced by HBO TV series The Wire. Coldplay have stated on several occasions that they want their next studio album to be "more acoustic" and "more intimate" than its predecessor, 2008's Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.

Mylo Xyloto has received mixed to positive reviews from music critics. According to Metacritic, the album has received an average review score of 61/100, based on 31 reviews, indicating "Generally favourable reviews". The Daily Telegraph's Neil McCormick wrote that "it is irresistible, none the less. With co-producer Brian Eno on synthesizers and co-writing duties, the mood is adventurous and the sound is luxuriously colourful, Martin’s hook-laden piano lines are overlaid with sparkling guitar motifs and driven along by simple, direct beats. Melodies course through everything, constantly shifting and reshaping". Rolling Stone gave the album a positive review stating, "this time Coldplay have integrated the "Enoxification" (as they call it) into their own down-the-middle core: Check out the cascading choral vocals that augment Martin's soaring refrain on "Paradise." Prominent elements prop up the sonic cathedrals: Jonny Buckland's guitar, which is riffier and more muscular than ever, and Euro-house synths that wouldn't sound out of place at a nightclub in Ibiza." Allmusic writer Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave a positive review, awarding it with three-and-a-half stars out of five and writing, "Mylo Xyloto has a leg up other Coldplay records for this simple reason: they're no longer attempting to mimic U2's portentous piety. They've embraced their schoolboy selves and are simply singing songs of love and good cheer, albeit on a grand scale that somehow seems smaller due to the group's insuppressible niceness." BBC praised the album for being "A triumphant fifth LP which reveals familiar strengths in all the right places". The album has also appeared on the top 10 of several iTunes charts, such as Canada, the US, the UK and Australia, well ahead of its release date.

The music is underscored by lush strings, electronic beats, and a jungle-influenced introduction. The song was rumored to have been inspired by the piece "The Wonderful Widow Of 18 Springs" by John Cage.

Björk has stated that a track on Homogenic, "Bachelorette", is a continuation of "Isobel". "Play Dead" is a song by Icelandic singer Björk, and was released as the third single from her 1993 album Debut.

It is a dark piece underscored by moody strings with lyrics about acting numb to prevent emotional pain. It was originally a non-album track recorded for the film The Young Americans and intended as a single-only release, but eventually it was added as a bonus track to international pressings of Björk's album Debut. Björk also sings on the tracks "Opening Titles" and "Leaving London" on the soundtrack CD of the film. In both the film and soundtrack, "Leaving London" crescendoes into Play Dead as a single arrangement.

The song was co-written by Jah Wobble and David Arnold, and was later remixed by Tim Simenon. At the time it was her most successful UK single, reaching number twelve.

A modified version of the song was also used in 1995 on the launch advert for the new Vauxhall Vectra, with the tagline "Designed for the next millennium".

Von brigði is a remix album of Icelandic band Sigur Rós' first album, Von. It was released in 1998 on Smekkleysa Records, and continues to be available only in Iceland or through the band's online store. An LP, containing four tracks from the album, was also released, though only 100 copies of this green-colored vinyl edition were made.

Von brigði's title is a word play. The word "Vonbrigði" means "disappointment", but split in two it translates as "variations on Von", "brigði" meaning "variation". A full translation into English would result in "hope variation". The last song on the album is a song by Sigur Rós which the band meant to go on Von, but couldn't be finished in time.

Hvarf/Heim is a compilation album by Sigur Rós. Its original CD release comprises two discs: Hvarf contains studio versions of previously unreleased songs (with the exception of "Hafsól", which was released as the b-side of "Hoppípolla" in 2005), while Heim contains live acoustic versions of songs already released. The songs on Heim are the same recordings found in Heima. In 2008 EMI released a single-disc version in which Heim is simply tracklisted to follow Hvarf.

The cover images are pinhole polaroid photographs. The Hvarf cover is a handheld image of the microphone stands just before the band arrived to play in the gentle rain. The Heim cover is a 7-minute exposure of the stage at Gamla Borg where Sigur Rós performed an acoustic set for friends and family in April 2007.

The album was released on November 5 in Europe and on November 6 in North America. Prior to this release a limited 7" vinyl single of "Hljómalind" was released on 29 October. The album debut at #23 in UK, #7 on the US independent chart and #83 in Spain selling over 50,000 copies in first week worldwide. The album, as of June 2008, was certified Silver in the UK for 60,000+ being sold.

Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust is the fifth full-length studio album by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós, released on June 23, 2008. All the lyrics for the album were originally intended to be in English, but in the end the band decided that Icelandic felt more natural to them. Some lyrics were translated back into Icelandic, while some songs got completely new texts. It is the band's first album to feature a track sung in English ("All Alright"). The first track on the album, "Gobbledigook", premiered on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 music show in the UK on May 27, 2008. "Festival" was premiered on Colin Murray's Radio 1 show on June 3, 2008.

In general, the music continues Sigur Rós' departure from their generally ethereal and minimalist music, being (as the title and cover suggest) more playful and fanciful than their early work, featuring more traditional guitar melodies, acoustic instrumentation, and folk-oriented compositions following in the vein of their later albums.

The album was available for pre-order from June 3 on the band's official media site, and on June 5, the band performed "Gobbledigook", "Inní mér syngur vitleysingur ", "Festival", "Fljótavík", "Við spilum endalaust" and "All Alright" live in Guadalajara, Mexico. On June 8, the full album streamed early on the Sigur Rós dót widget. On June 19, pre-ordered albums began arriving in the mail. The song "Festival" was featured in the 2010 Danny Boyle film 127 Hours starring James Franco.

The album's cover features a photograph by Ryan McGinley. Originally the album artwork was going to be done by Olafur Eliasson; it would have been the first time the band had passed album artwork to an external artist. In the end they did not like the proposed design and created the cover art themselves using the photograph.

Takk... is the fourth full-length studio album by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós. The first singles, "Glósóli" and "Sæglópur", were released on August 15, 2005 and August 16, 2005 respectively, the former worldwide and the latter only in the United States. The single "Hoppípolla" was released in the UK on 28 November 2005 and entered the singles chart at #35 on 4 December. Upon its re-release in May 2006 it reached #24 in the UK chart. The album debuted at 27 in the U.S., selling 30,000 copies in its first week of release. On 7 April 2006, Takk... was certified gold by the BPI, marking 100,000 copies sold in the UK. In total, it has sold over 800,000 copies worldwide.

1000 copies of Takk... on vinyl were manufactured and arrived in UK and US stores as of January 2006. It is composed of a gatefold sleeve housing two 12 inch records, with a single die cut page that houses a 10-inch record with a design etched on one side.

Unlike its predecessor ( ), the album's lyrics are mostly in Icelandic, with occasional elements of Vonlenska ("Hopelandic"), a scat-like form of gibberish. The songs "Andvari", "Gong" and "Mílanó" are sung entirely in Vonlenska. Moreover, the song "Mílanó" was written together with the string quartet Amiina.

Rhythmically, Takk... makes extensive use of changing time signatures. In the track "Andvari" for example, the main melody repeats itself every 27 beats, with stress on beats 1, 5, 9, 11, 16, 20 and 25. This could be rendered as seven bars of 4, 4, 2, 5, 4, 5 and 3 beats respectively. Against this there is a steady counter-rhythm of triple time, which could be rendered as eighteen bars of 3/8 time per 27-beat cycle.

( ) is the third full-length album from Icelandic band Sigur Rós, first released in October 2002. It comprises eight untitled tracks, divided into two parts: the first four tracks are lighter and more optimistic, while the latter four are bleaker and more melancholic. The two halves are divided by a 36-second silence, and the album opens and closes with a click of distortion. Lead singer Jón Þór Birgisson ("Jónsi") sang the album's lyrics entirely in "Hopelandic", a made-up language consisting of gibberish words. ( ) reached #51 on the Billboard 200 and was positively received by critics, although some reviewers found the album weaker than the work of Sigur Rós on Ágætis byrjun.

( ) consists of eight tracks divided in half by thirty-six seconds of silence which, in concept, replicates the separation of two sides of a gramophone record.[1][7] The first half of the album is "light and optimistic" musically, with a heavier emphasis on the use of keyboards than guitar, and the sampling of Jónsi's voice. The second half is more melancholic, playing with the emotions of the listener, as described by Jónsi. None of the tracks on ( ) have titles; band guitarist and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson said of this choice, "we didn't want to put titles on the record just because there are supposed to be titles on the record." The songs are listed as "Untitled #1", "Untitled #2", etc., although each track has an unofficial name used by the band.

Jónsi sang the lyrics of ( ) entirely in "Vonlenska" ("Hopelandic"), a made-up "language" which consists of meaningless words and syllables. Jónsi uses Hopelandic in place of songs which do not yet have lyrics, although tracks on Sigur Rós albums Von and Takk... are only sung in the language. Its names in English and Icelandic are derived from "Von" ("Hope" in English), the ninth track on the album Von, which is the first instance in which Hopelandic is used in the band's music. The Hopelandic of ( ) consists of one eleven-syllable phrase, "You xylo. You xylo no fi lo. You so.", which is deconstructed in various ways over the course of the album. ( ) is made up of material that Sigur Rós had been playing live for over two years. For this reason, the band did not want to give the songs actual lyrics. Drummer Orri Páll Dýrason said of this, "[the songs] were fully formed and it would have been strange to suddenly insert lyrics into these finished products."

Ágætis byrjun is the second album by the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós, which was released in 1999. Ágætis byrjun was recorded between the summer of 1998 to the spring of 1999 with producer Ken Thomas, and became Sigur Rós's breakthrough album, both critically and commercially. Ágætis byrjun represented a substantial departure from the band's previous album Von, with that album's Cocteau Twins-esque dream pop and extended ambient soundscapes replaced by Jónsi Birgisson's now signature cello-bowed guitarwork and lush orchestration (using a double string octet amongst other orchestral elements).

The album's title came from a friend hearing the first song they had written for the album, which would become the title track. After hearing the song, he said it was "a good beginning"; the name stuck. The name has also been translated as "An alright start."

The ten songs on the album include some self-reference: the introduction contains backmasked parts from the title track, and the last song, "Avalon", consists of a different take of an instrumental passage from "Starálfur" slowed to around one-third its original speed. The strings in "Starálfur" itself are palindromic; they are the same forwards and backwards. All vocals are sung in Icelandic, except for those on "Olsen Olsen" and the last section of the title track, which are sung in the gibberish language Vonlenska. Sigur Rós' subsequent album, ( ), used Vonlenska exclusively for its vocals. Sigur Rós won an Iceland Music Award and the 2001 Shortlist Music Prize for this album.

Von is the debut album of Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. The production of the album took a long time, and the end result sounded significantly different from the original recordings. The band considered scrapping the final result and starting all over again, but decided not to because it would have made the process too long. In exchange for recording time, Sigur Rós painted the studio they recorded in.

Von was originally released in Iceland to moderate critical acclaim, but went relatively unnoticed abroad. In the first year following the release, Von sold only 313 copies in Iceland. Following the band's popular international releases, Ágætis byrjun and ( ), it was re-released in the United Kingdom in September 2004, and in the United States a month later. In December 2005, Von and Ágætis byrjun were declared platinum albums in Iceland, signifying domestic sales of over 5,000.

The sixth track consists of 18 seconds of silence, and gave name to Sigur Rós's official website, eighteen seconds before sunrise. The last track starts with six minutes and fifteen seconds of silence, then consists of a portion of "Myrkur" played backwards, hence the name of "Rukrym."

"Unplayed Piano" is a 2005 single by the Irish singer-songwriter duo Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan. It was released in June 2005 and appeared in a total of six charts, spending a total of twenty-five weeks there. It spent twelve weeks in the Irish Singles Chart after entering on 23 June 2005, breaking into the Top 10 and achieving a peak of fourth position. It remained in fourth position for two weeks before falling to seventh position where it spent a further three weeks. The song peaked at number 16 in the UK Singles Chart and number 36 in the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles. "Unplayed Piano" was released on the DRM label and featured Rice's usual backing band of Vyvienne Long, Tom Osander and Shane Fitzsimons.

"Unplayed Piano" was released as a single by Hannigan and Rice to support the Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday campaign which was running at the time. Aung San Suu Kyi is a Nobel Peace Prize winner who had been under house arrest in Burma for various periods from 2002 to 2010. She was previously placed under house arrest by the country's ruling military junta in the former capital, Yangon on 19 July 1989 under martial law that allows for detention without charge or trial for three years. She was released on 10 July 1995 but re-arrested on 23 September 2000. On 6 May 2002 she was freed after nineteen months but on 30 May 2003, following the Depayin massacre she was held in secret detention for over three months before being returned to house arrest. Despite global protests in solidarity her detention was extended by the Myanmar military junta for one year periods in 2007 and 2008. She was finally released in 2010.

Rice was approached by the United States Campaign for Burma, which asked him to donate an existing song for their Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday Campaign. Instead Rice constructed, "Unplayed Piano", and also scheduled a live show at the London Palladium to assist in increasing the public profile of the campaign. He also gave a rare interview to The Independent to highlight the issues which inspired the song, discussing his visit to Myanmar and confessing his prior ignorance of the situation there. He wishes not to be viewed as a political activist and is "no Bob Geldof... just a regular guy who has seen something that is wrong and is trying, in some small way, to help".

The Independent described "Unplayed Piano" as "a twinkly and beautiful thing". Rice is known for refusing to openly discuss the song after becoming incensed when a friend commented that it "didn't quite measure up to the clout of his earlier work". He insists that his other songs are more powerful because they originate deeper inside him.

"Unplayed Piano" first appeared in the Irish Singles Chart on 25 June 2005 in fourth position where it remained for a second consecutive week. The day after it first charted in Ireland the song charted in the United Kingdom at number 16. The song peaked at number 16 in the UK Singles Chart dropping out of the Top 40 at number 39. It remained in the Irish Singles Chart charting at number 7 for three consecutive weeks before dropping to number 8 on 27 July 2005. In August it charted consecutively at number 12, number 14, number 15 and number 20. The song entered the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles on 9 July 2005 at number 36 before dropping to number 52 and number 81 in the following two weeks.
